BBC Feature Highlights the Role and Challenges of Trading Standards Professionals

The coverage includes the experience of two officer who work within Trading Standards in Wales, namely Mandy Flood and Andrew Meaney.

By speaking to the BBC, Mandy and Andrew have helped raise awareness of the realities of frontline enforcement and the professionalism and dedication Trading Standards officers show every day. Trading Standards professionals deal with a wide range of issues, including unsafe products, illegal goods and unfair trading practices. Much of this work happens behind the scenes and can involve complex or sensitive situations.

Their focus is always on keeping people safe and supporting fair and lawful businesses. The BBC feature comes alongside a forthcoming survey from the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI). The survey is looking at the challenges faced by Trading Standards professionals across the UK and will help build a clearer national picture of the pressures and risks involved in this work.

Christina Hill, Head of Shared Regulatory Services, said:

“This BBC feature highlights the vital work Trading Standards professionals carry out every day to protect consumers and support fair businesses. Mandy’s willingness to share her experience helps raise awareness of both the challenges and the professionalism involved in this role. At Shared Regulatory Services, we are proud of our Trading Standards teams and remain committed to supporting their wellbeing, safety and continued development."
